Hypothyroidism can result from various factors beyond iodine deficiency and autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s. These include deficiencies in essential nutrients such as selenium, zinc, iron, vitamin D, and vitamin B12. In contrast, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by the immune system’s misguided attack on the thyroid gland.
